Term 2 Math

In Term 2 we have been working on Basic Algebra and Linear Equations. Below is some of the work that we have learnt

Marti Friendlander | Social Studies Term 2

In Term 2 we have been researching different New Zealand paintings and have been writing about them. Once we did a few, we had to get into groups and pick a person. My group picked Marti Friendlander. A women from New Zealand.

Marti Friedlander

She began working as a photographer in 1964, when she travelled around New Zealand.

Her passion was taking photos of New zealand and the different events that took place.

Marti Friedlander photographed the people of New Zealand from the 1960s up until the present.
By bringing an immigrant’s perspective on her adopted country she showed New Zealanders to
themselves. She is particularly renowned for her portraits of artists in the 1960’s and 1970s, and for
her images of the last Maori women to have received the chin moko in a customary manner.

Social Studies Term 1

In Term 1 we did a lot of different activities. One of them was about our identity. Who we are. We also learnt about where other people are from. We had to look up how much people were from where in the census from the 1896-1916. We did most of the countries.

Kumara Trip

On Monday April 9th, the whole year 9 group at Greymouth High School went to Kumara for a English/Social Studies trip. We split up into 2 busses with 2 groups in each. When we arrived at Kumara, each group went to a different activity. The different activities were Drama, Games, Walk to a huge rock, and a lesson about Richard Seddon.

For my group in Drama, we chose to do accidents. Where we had to act out an explosion that happened in the mine. For the walk to the huge rock, the ground was all muddy. But when we got their it was just a big rock with a path around it so you can see how big it was. The lesson about Richard Seddon was just about the history of Kumara and all the things he did back when he was Prime Minister. Then our last activity was a game where we had to collect tennis balls and put them in our team circle.

Year 9 English

In English, we use a website called Hapara. Hapara is a website where each students gets invited to get their own workspace. So they can get their work. At the start, we chose a person who was inspirational to us, or inspirational to other people.

In English, we do things called Big Questions & Success Tickets. At the start of the day, we log onto Hapara and do the big question. The big question is to write a 100 word story about what happened during their week or an imaginary story. The success ticket is what we do at the end of the day. We write a review of the work that we did that day.

Our research so far has been about the Hero Cycle. While doing the work, we did things related to it, like Monomyths. The photo attached is a picture of the work we did about Monomyths.

Next term I would like to do something different than doing the Hero Cycle. Like writing a story about a certain subject. Or learning new things.

Future Cars

We have been writing what we think a futuristic car will look like. We had to each write our own cool car then had to partner up with someone to draw them.

The lime green car, soaring just above the road. With rubber around the car, going into the wonderful mixture of blue in the water. Machine guns attached to each side of the car, with magical features inside the car;, bluetooth speaker steering wheel. The top of the car is like a little home, with a small bed and tv inside. The top story of the car has a light mixture of orange around it. The car up to 1000 km an hour. Big bright flames shooting out the back of the car with extra boosters on the back so the car can go a bit faster. On the front of the car is a small sharp drill so when people are going slow in front of you you can activate it so it can pop their tyres and go over them. The car also has big giant reinforced wheels so it can drive over any vehicle. Has a caveman driving the car so you can get through traffic easier. The caveman will not know how to drive so if you are stuck in traffic he will drive through a building to get you somewhere faster. The caveman comes with many features, personalized talking system, lasers, and a pistol just in case if someone crashes into him.
